At the end of last year, I was working in Kigali, Rwanda and was stuck, waiting for a visa. In the lobby of my hotel, I met Dominique, who runs two schools in Kigali: one for deaf and one for visually impaired children and young people.
We talked for a long time about his work with the children and he invited me to visit his family. They offered me to stay with them until my onward journey. They were incredibly hospitable and I stayed for one and a half weeks until I could travel on.
This is how I got to know the Umutara Deaf School.
